Core Concept

Kingship in Israel rests on humility and repentance before God: David united the people around Jerusalem, and in the Psalms turned his struggles, his falls and his hope into a prayer for all generations.

Founder of the royal house of David and author of the Book of Psalms. He conquered Jerusalem and brought the Ark of the Covenant up to it – "the sweet singer of Israel".
