Core Concept

He saw the main work of his life in writing many books, in which he combined the Kabbalah of the Ari with the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov. Among his books are Heichal HaBeracha, a commentary on the five books of the Torah with an emphasis on the interpretation of the Masorah; Zohar Chai, a commentary on the Zohar according to the Kabbalah of the Ari and the Baal Shem Tov; and Shulchan HaTahor, on the order of the laws in the Shulchan Arukh, Orach Chaim. He regarded the Baal Shem Tov as his master and teacher even though he was born after the Baal Shem Tov’s death, and he wrote a personal diary in which he recorded visions revealed to him; the diary was kept secret until the middle of the twentieth century, and in the 1950s it was published from manuscripts under the title Megilat Setarim.

Biography

Rabbi Yitzchak Eizik Yehuda Yechiel Safrin (1806–1874) was the second Rebbe in the Komarno Hasidic dynasty and a prolific author of Torah works. He was the son of Rabbi Alexander Sender, the founder of the dynasty, and after he was orphaned of his father at the age of 12 he was raised by his uncle, his father's brother, Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Zidichov. After his marriage he moved to Pińczów, where his father-in-law, Rabbi Avraham Mordechai, served as rabbi, and later he moved to Komarno, his father's town, and lived there until the end of his life. He received his teaching from Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Heshel of Apta and from his uncle, and he also studied with Rabbi Naftali Zvi of Ropshitz, Rabbi Moshe Zvi of Savran and Rabbi Asher Yeshaya Rubin of Ropshitz.
