Kabbalah and ethics, thought
Reishit Chochmah is a kabbalistic book on the ideal traits of man, based largely on the Zohar. According to the Shem HaGedolim, whoever sets himself a daily portion in it will surely find holiness and purity shining within him.
A kabbalist and thinker, born in Safed, a disciple of the Ramak who also learned from the Ari. He moved to Hebron, was appointed head of its rabbis and was buried there. In 1575 he finished writing his book Reishit Chochmah, which deals with the various aspects of human life according to their kabbalistic meaning, and which has had many editions, an abridged edition and a Yiddish translation.
